Rankin named to SWAC’s Pre-season 2nd Team
Alcorn State,
MS---Senior Mid-Fielder Ashley Rankin was named to the
Southwestern Athletic Conference Pre-Season 2nd Team. Rankin is the lone player on the team to
receive an honor for the upcoming 2008 season. During the 2007 season, she was the team’s leading scorer with six (6)
goals and thirteen (13) points. The scholar-athlete is a native of
Aurora,
Colorado. Also, the Lady Braves Soccer team was
predicted to finish last in the Eastern Division of the SWAC. The 2008 season will begin on August 23rd
for the Lady Braves when they take on
Jackson
State in the President’s Cup in
Jackson,
Mississippi.

Alcorn State releases 2008 Soccer Schedule
Alcorn State,
MS----The 2008 Lady Braves soccer
schedule is now complete and includes a 17 game schedule, 6 of the games will
be played in Jack Spinks Stadium on campus. This will be the first year that the Lady Braves games will be held on
campus.
Alcorn
State will open on the road in
Jackson,
Mississippi in the President’s Cup against
Jackson
State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Lady Braves will make their home-field
debut on August 26th against
Copiah-Lincoln
Community
College.
Alcorn
State
soccer will go on a five game road swing traveling from
Shreveport,
Louisiana to
Itta Bena,
Mississippi. The Lady Braves will then return home to host
four games against Southern University (10/10),
Jackson
State (10/12), Prairie View (10/17)
and
Texas
Southern (10/19). ASU season will wrap
their season up with four road games. The SWAC Tournament will be held November 5-9th in
Itta Bena,
Mississippi on
the campus of
Mississippi
Valley.
The 2008 season will be the 2nd year under Coach
Christie Chambers. Chambers was 4-11
last season and hopes to be a strong contender for the 2008 SWAC Soccer Crown.
She also stated that “she is excited that the games will now be held on
