Braves Face Wake Forest on Opening Day Friday

Lorman, Miss.-Picked to finish third in the SWAC Eastern division this season, the Alcorn State Baseball team opens up their 2013 campaign against Wake Forest in the ULM Baseball Tournament in Monroe, La.  The first pitch is set for 2 p.m.

The Braves are scheduled to play four games over the weekend.  On Saturday, the Braves take on Wake Forest again at 2 p.m. and Louisiana-Monroe at 6 p.m.  The Braves wrap-up the weekend Sunday when they face Louisiana-Monroe in the tournament finale at 3 p.m.

Tomorrow's opening-day game and Sunday's game can be heard on the Alcorn State radio network WPRL (91.7 FM).  Charles Edmonds, in his in 22nd season as the "Voice of the Braves," will be calling the play-by-play on the Alcorn radio network.  You can also follow Braves baseball on twitter @BRAVESSPORTS.

Head Coach Barrett Rey enters his fourth season at the helm of the Braves.  Under Rey's direction, the Braves have recorded three consecutive winning seasons in SWAC play, appeared in the SWAC Championship game twice (2010 and 2011) and captured the title in 2011 which earned them a slot in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.  Last season, the Braves finished 18-37 overall and 14-10 in SWAC play. 

Braves shortstop, Angel Rosa returns for his junior season as the SWAC Pre-Season Defensive Player of the Year.  Rosa was also selected to Pre-Season SWAC First Team.  Other players to watch this season are Jordan Boston (SWAC Pre-Season First Team Select) and Ryan Fuentes (SWAC Pre-Season Second Team Select).


The meeting between the Braves and Wake Forest will be the first ever.  Wake Forest finished fourth in the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2012.  The Demon Deacons return 20 letterman from last year's 33-24 season.
