Marquis Vance recorded a career-high 24 points as the Braves pick up their 3rd straight win to remain undefeated at home against Mississippi Valley State, 65-53.
A few baskets were traded early by both teams and the Delta Devils went ahead by as many as three points in the first half.
Trey Brown got the Braves going early scoring the Braves first six points of the game to give the Braves a 6-5 lead.
It was Vance turn next scoring the next four points for the Braves on a layup and a mid-range jumper to increase the Braves lead to 10-7 at the 14:58 mark of the first half.
A minute and some change later, the Delta Devils took a 16-13 lead on a layup by James Currington.
But a block shot which turned into a short jumper by
Josh Nicholas gave the Braves the lead back 19-16 with 8:54 to go in the first half.
The Braves managed to hold their lead for the rest of the game but the Delta Devils kept the game close.
Brown came fresh out of the locker room and scored the Braves first basket with only eight seconds into the second half to increase the Braves lead to five, 35-30.
The Braves shot 52 percent in the first half.
A layup by
LeAntwan Luckett and five consecutive points by Vance gave the Braves their first double-digit lead of the game, 50-40 with 9:11 to play.
Senior guard Twann Oakley came off the bench and knocked down a three-pointer and hit a pair of free throws to increas the Braves lead to 55-42 at the 7:51 mark of the second half.
The Braves took their largest lead of the game (19 points) on a pair of free throws by Brown. The Braves were now up 65-46 with just over three minutes to play.
The Braves went scoreless in the final three minutes of the game and allowed the Delta Devils to close the game on a 7-0 run but the win was already secured for the Braves.
Brown was second on the team for the Braves in scoring with 17 points making 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Luckett scored a 15 points off the bench before fouling out of the game.
Julius Francis, Anthony McDonald, and DeAngelo Priar each had 10 points to lead the Delta Devils.
The Braves hit the road Monday night as they travel to Arkansas to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. immediately following the women's game.
