PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Alcorn State University women's track & field team won one gold medal, two silver medals and two bronze medals during the 2021 SWAC Outdoor Championships.

Runelda Jackson accounted for nearly half of the team's 50 points scored with 24 by herself, breaking Dynasty Williams' outdoor 10,000m program record in the process, falling after six seasons.

Jackson broke Williams' mark with a event-winning time of 39:33.17, usurping the previous best clip of 42:09.33 by about two-and-a-half minutes.

Along with the gold in the 10,000m, the Belle Glade, Florida native collected a silver medal in the 5000m (19:26.93) and a bronze during the 1500m (4:50.57).

When asked about breaking the record, the sophomore simply stated, "To whom much is given, so much is required."

Individually, the only other Lady Brave who medaled was Akili Pleas-Carne, taking home the silver for her 1:02.13 time during the 400 hurdles. Pleas-Carne also joined her teammates An'Twanique Kinsler, Endya Scott and Jasmine Ward on the 4x400 relay team in claiming the bronze at a 3:48.47 clip.

Kinsler, Scott and Ward were also apart of the 4x100 relay squad that tallied three points for earning a sixth place finish at 48.20 with De'Kari Courtney the fourth member instead of Pleas-Carne.

Americus Knight was the next closest to medaling, just missing the cut in fourth place to earn four points for her 1.51m high jump.

Rounding out the Purple and Gold point scorers were Samouya Nevers for her 5:01.97 1500m time (two points) and Qua'Neshia Hamilton who got one for an eighth place allotment during the triple jump (11.75m).
