RUSTON, La. - Alcorn State put together its most complete performance of the season on Friday afternoon, securing an 81-74 victory over Indiana State at the LaTech Tournament. The win marks the first Division I triumph for head coach Jacob Morton, who guided the Braves to a wire-to-wire effort built on efficient scoring, defensive pressure, and timely execution.
The Braves opened the game on a dominant tear, shooting 48 percent in the first half and racing out to a 36-16 lead at the break. Jameel Morris paced the early push with 18 points overall, finishing 7-of-13 from the field and adding five rebounds. His steady scoring helped Alcorn control the tempo the entire afternoon.
Shane Lancaster provided a crucial spark, dropping 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while Davian Williams came off the bench for 14 points, four rebounds and four steals, lifting the Braves in key second-half stretches.
Tycen McDaniels delivered one of his strongest performances of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, posting a double-double and collecting three steals to anchor the defensive effort. Nick Woodard added eight points and nine rebounds, helping Alcorn win 43–33 on the glass.
Omari Hamilton chipped in eight points and six boards as the Braves continued to attack the paint, outscoring Indiana State 40–36 inside. Alcorn also earned 22 points from the bench and forced 23 Sycamore turnovers, converting those into 19 fast-break points.
Indiana State made a late surge, cutting the margin to as few as three in the final minute, but clutch free throws from Lancaster and McDaniels sealed the win and secured a memorable milestone for Coach Morton.
Alcorn State returns to action tomorrow in Ruston for its second game of the LaTech Tournament.
