Pitcher Ashley Breal was named 2016 SWAC Newcomer of the Year and the Jackson Free Press Person of the Day, May 12. Breal is a junior Sports Management major who ended the 2016 SWAC tournament with the most strikeouts in a single tournament on record (38).
