SPEARS HIRES ALCORNITE AND FORMER NFL PLAYER LOUIS GREEN

Alcorn State head football coach Melvin Spears has hired 2002 Alcorn State graduate Louis Green of Alcorn State, Ms as the linebacker and specialty teams coach. He played for former coach Johnny Thomas from 1998 thru 2002 as a linebacker. Green is a graduate of Jefferson County High School. He received a degree from ASU in Industrial Technology and is currently pursuing his Masters in Guidance Education.
 
Coach Green played in the National Football League for the Baltimore Ravens and the Denver Broncos. He was with the Broncos from 2004 thru 2009 where he was a linebacker and also played on specialty teams.
 
He received the Ed Black Courage Award while with the Broncos.
Coach Green coached at Jefferson County High last season, directing the linebackers and specialty teams.
 
Green is glad to be working for Spears and Alcorn State: “It is a great opportunity for me to be back at my alma mater to assist in turning the program into a championship one. It is especially great to get the chance to work with coach Spears and it is such an honor to be back where I played my college ball. This is the dream job for me.”  Coach Spears said this about Green: “He has the experience dealing with linebackers and specialty team players as he played both positions on the highest level, the NFL.  He is young and smart and I am sure that he will instill pride on the specialty teams and line backing core.”
Said Green about the specialty team members: “The only ones who will be out there are those who will take pride in being on those units. That's a contact team.”
 
 He is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Louis Green Sr., His mother, Mrs. Mary Alice Green, is currently employed at ASU. Coach Green is the father of Landon Green.
