Braves face Temple in Chevrolet Gotham Classic

The Alcorn State Men's Basketball team travels to Philadelphia, PA to take on the Temple Owls from the Atlantic 10 Conference in the Gotham Classic.  This is the first year of the Gotham Classic which features five Division I schools.  The schools participating along with the Braves are Canisius College, University of Detroit, Syracuse University, and Temple University. 
 
With a 2-7 overall record, the Braves are hoping to get their season jumped off with a win tonight against a good Temple ball club.  Leantwan Luckett leads the Braves in scoring averaging 13.8 ppg.  Anthony Evans, who leads the team in steals (2.2 spg), is averaging 11.7 and Anthony Nieves averages 10.8 ppg.  The Braves are coming off a loss Saturday night at the hands of the Arkansas Razorbacks.  The Razorbacks defeated the Braves 97-59.  Luckett led the Braves in scoring with 20 points.  Nieves and freshman Tyrel Hunt chipped in 15 and 12 points, respectively.
 
The Owls are under the leadership of head coach Fran Dunphy.  Scottie Randall leads the Owls in scoring with 14.9 ppg and Khaliff Wyatt is second on the team in scoring for the Owls with 13.5 ppg.  Dunphy and his team are 7-1 coming off a win against Townson 72-61.
 
Tonight's matchup is the first meeting between the Owls and the Braves.  Tip-off is at 8pm ET.
