Alcorn State, MS--Chqueta Givens did all she could to give the Lady
Braves a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Alabama A&M University, as theLady
Braves lost 7-5 in seven innings at Alcorn State on Sunday.
Givens led the Alcorn's offensive threat, as she got on base four times in the game. She singled in the second inning.
Melissa Rubio kept Alabama A&M University off balance while she was on the rubber. Rubio held Alabama A&M University hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one.
Cassandra Brown got the win for Alabama A&M University despite allowing five runs over five innings. The Alabama A&M University pitcher struck out three, walked four and surrendered seven hits.
The game's last lead went to Alabama A&M University thanks to a first inning rally that saw four runs cross the plate on a two-run double by Samantha Cain and two singles.
After posting one run in the first, the Lady Braves again scored one in the second. In the first, Alcorn State scored on a groundout by Bianca Armstrong, bringing home Givens.
Alabama A&M University put up one run in each of the second, third and fourth. In the second, Alabama A&M University scored on a steal of home by Shenika Johnson, scoring Johnson.
The Lady Braves scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut their deficit to two. An RBI single by Armstrong, a groundout by Chamara Moore, and a groundout by Alexandria Harris fueled Alcorn State's comeback. Alabama A&M University stopped the rally after Brown got Chelsie Dahlbeck to fly out.
