The Alcorn State football team dropped their first home game of the season to SWAC East opponent Alabama A&M 19-18. With the loss the Braves are now 7-3 overall and 5-2 in SWAC play. Below are some key information that took place over the weekend:

With the loss on Saturday, Head Coach Jay Hopson still has a winning percentage just over .500 with an overall record of 11-10.

The Braves are ranked 3rd in the SWAC scoring offense with an average of 37.3 points per game. For the first time at home this season the Braves didn't score over 30 points.

Arnold Walker carried the ball 27 times for 109 yards. Walker is only 64 yards from breaking Augustus Lee's all-time career rushing record.

Sophomore quarterback John Gibbs, Jr. reached the 2,000 mark in passing yards after completing 18 of 30 passes for 171 yards and one touchdown.

Sophomore wide receiver Jordan Payne caught his eighth touchdown of the season. He is now tied for 1st in the SWAC in receiving touchdowns.

Anthony Williams, Jr. led the Braves on defense for the first time this season with nine tackles (6 solo, 3 assist).

The Braves are ranked in the top five in 28 of the 33 statistical categories in the SWAC. The Braves are also ranked No. 1 in the following categories: On-Side Kicks, Punt Return Avg., Pass Defense Efficiency, and Pass Defense.

Senior defensive back Jamison Knox has moved up in the Passes Defended Category to No. 3 after recording two pass break-ups. Knox also recovered a fumble over the weekend against Alabama A&M.
