Lady Braves Sweep LSU-Alexandria to Snap Losing Streak

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lorman, Miss.-After a tough disappointing weekend at the SWAC Round-up, head coach Jessica Harris and her Lady Braves softball team knew they needed to come back and regroup.  The Lady Braves managed to get back in the win column yesterday afternoon with a pair of wins over LSU-Alexandria, 7-5 and 8-6.

Game 1
LSU-Alexandria jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning over the Lady Braves.  The Lady Braves scored their first run in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI single by Briana Bishop making the score 4-1.

The visiting Lady Generals scored again when in the top of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead but the Lady Brave weren't down just yet.  It was all about the Lady Braves in the bottom of the fourth inning when Chqueta Givens cleared the bases hitting a 3RBI triple scoring Samantha MartinezTiffany Stewart, and Chelsie Dahlbeck to cut the lead to 5-4.

The inning wasn't over with yet scoring off of two errors by the Lady Generals and RBI singled by Bishop.  A huge fourth inning by the Lady Braves gave them a commanding 7-5 lead which would become the final score.

Bishop was 3-4 with 2 RBIs and Givens went 2-4 with 3 RBIs

Game 2
In the second game of the double-header, the Lady Braves decided to jump on top of LSU-Alexandria early in the first inning.  Alexandria Harris hit a two-run double to give the Lady Braves a 2-0 lead. 

The Lady Generals would score their first run in the top of the third but the once again the Lady Braves had another big inning in the bottom of the third.  Givens found her way home on a groundout hit by Harris.  Rayven Riggs and Bishop scored on an error by the Lady Generals and the Lady Braves concluded the inning scoring three runs to increase their lead to 5-1.

The Lady Braves struck again with another three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth.  Dahlbeck scored on another error by the Lady Generals.  Riggs stepped up to the plate and connected on a double scoring Givens.  Bishop scored the last run on a RBI single by Harris to give the Lady Braves an 8-1 lead.

LSU-Alexandria charged back in the top of the seventh trying extend the game.  The Lady Generals scored five runs to close the gap but the Lady Braves were able to hold them off for the victory.

Riggs and Harris were both 2-4.  Riggs racked up two hits and scored twice while Harris had two hits and batted in four runners.

The Lady Braves are back in action Saturday afternoon as they host Talladega College.  Game one of the double-header is set for 1 p.m.
