Lorman, Miss-Today's first segment of "Senior Spotlight" with Sports Information Director, Je'Kel Smith, features wide receiver Tavoris Doss. Doss is a senior from Memphis Tennessee. He was second on the team in receptions (27) and tied for 1st in receiving touchdowns (2) during the 2012 season.
Doss was redshirted his freshman year but has progressed throughout his career to become the captain and best wide receiver returning for the Braves this season.
JS: Tavoris you are the captain of this year's core of wide receiver's, talk about how you manage to encourage such a large group of talented players.
TD: It's new for me but I've learned so many ways on how to become a leader in my previous year's from my former teammates such as Edward Johnson and Ryan Singleton. They taught me a lot during the five years I was here so I sat back for a few years and watched them but I've been doing my best to get close to them and try to help them when they make mistakes on and off the field.
JS: You've been through four different head coaches every year since you arrived on the "Reservation." How has the transitioning process been for you with a different offensive scheme each year?
TD: With the support of God, my family, and fellow teammates, I've been able to transition well. It's been difficult but as a whole I've managed it okay. The only things I had to adjust to was getting the coaches to notice the skills I possess and learning new offenses.
JS: What game do you believe is going to predict how the team finishes in 2013?
TD: I believe Mississippi State game is going to decide on how our season outcome goes because their a SEC school and their going to challenge us mentally and physically. This game is also going to see how close we are as a team. If we come together against Mississippi State then no one will be able to stop us the rest of the season.
JS: With Mississippi Valley coming to the "Reservation" the following week, tell me what the team has to do after a tough game against Mississippi State to prepare for the SWAC opener vs. Mississippi Valley?
TD: Mississippi Valley defeated us last year on their home turf and we owe them. I have never lost to Mississippi Valley since I've been here until last year. If we stay focus and keep our faith in God everything else will take it's course against Mississippi Valley.
JS: Who do yo believe will be the toughest competition in SWAC play this season?
TD: Arkansas-Pine Bluff will be one game because their the defending SWAC Champs and go to them this year after the Mississippi Valley game. Jackson State is always exciting and that game might determine who goes to the SWAC Championship in Houston.
Next week we will feature defensive end, Terrance Green in our Senior Spotlight segment.
