This past Saturday, the Alcorn State Football team traveled to Pine Bluff, Ark. to take on the Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions. The Braves scored first and never looked back defeating the defending SWAC Champs 21-16. Listed below are some key points that happen in the Braves victory on Saturday:
  • With the win over UAPB, the Braves are 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play while holding down the first place spot in the SWAC East.
  • Before Saturday's win, it had been ten years since the Braves went into Golden Lions Stadium and defeated UAPB (37-10, 2003).
  • The Braves running game totaled a season-high 227 yards on the ground in Saturday's victory over UAPB.
  • The Braves were 2-for-2 on 4th downs conversions which included the play where Arnold Walker gained three yards to secure the Braves victory.
  • Junior running back Joe Price scored his first rushing touchdown of the season and as "Brave." The 53-yard touchdown is Price's longest run since arriving on campus last season.
  • Senior running back, Arnold Walker had another solid performance carrying the ball 14 times for 82 yards and one touchdown. Walker managed not to get tackled behind the line of scrimmage which means all of his touches were for positive yards.
  • Defensive back, Quinton Cantue and linebacker Jestin Williams each recorded a game and career-high 11 tackles for the Braves. Cantue was also credited for one sack and one pass break-up.
  • Defensive Back, CJ Morgan stripped the ball form a UAPB defender in a key point of the game. He also accounted for five tackles (3 solo, 2 assists).
The Braves face off with Alabama State in a key SWAC East matchup this weekend at the New ASU Stadium in Montgomery, Ala.
