Gibbs Named Co-Offensive Player of the Year, 11 Braves Earn All-SWAC Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second consecutive season, the Alcorn State football team has produced the most players on the The Southwestern Athletic Conference  all-conference teams Friday and earned the co-offensive player of the year honor.  
 
Junior quarterback John Gibbs, Jr. from Alcorn State University shared the Co-Offensive Player of the Year honors with Alabama State's running back Malcolm Cyrus while 11 Braves were awarded with All-SWAC honors.  Last season, Arnold Walker shared the Co-Offensive Player of the Year honors with former Southern quarterback, Dray Joseph.
 
Gibbs led the Braves in rushing yards with a career-high of 874 yards and scored 11 touchdowns.  He completed 169-of-294 passes for a total of 2,237 yards, 18 touchdowns and has been intercepted only six times.  His quarterback and playmaking abilities helped the Braves clinched their first SWAC Eastern Division crown and He ranks third in the SWAC in passing efficiency.

Gibbs (QB) was also named to the All-SWAC 1st team offense along with Isaac Sampson (OL) and Jordan Payne (TE).  Defensive lineman Deion Roberson and Darien Moody and defensive backs Warren Gatewood and Devon Francois eached earned 1st team All-SWAC Defensive honors.

Anthony Williams III (RB) and Detonio Dade (OL) made the All-SWAC 2nd team offense and Damon Watkins (LB) was named to the All-SWAC 2nd team defense. Sophomore kicker Haiden McCraney was named the All-SWAC 2nd team kicker and punter.
