Box Score 2 Monroe, La. - After back-to-back devastating losses to LSU-Alexandria this past Wednesday, the Alcorn State Softball team managed to pick up their second victory of the season today at the Inaugural ULM Warhawk Tournament.
Game 1: Lady Braves 0, South Dakota 13 (5 innings)
The Lady Braves gave up eight runs in the first inning and South Dakota added on five more runs between the second and third innings to defeat the Lady Braves in game one of the Warhawk Tournament.
Hannah Vesper recorded the Lady Braves only hit of the game.
Game 2: Lady Braves 4, Louisiana-Monroe 3
The Lady Braves let the balls fly in game two of the Warhawk Tournament recording three home runs to defeat host Louisiana-Monroe, 4-3.
ULM struck first in the second inning on an RBI single.
The bats were swinging away in the top of the third when
Alexandria Harris hit a home run to tie the game at 1-1. Two batters later,
Hannah Vesper slapped a two-run homer to give the Lady Braves a 3-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, freshman
Devon Ryan hit a home run to give the Lady Braves a 4-1 lead and they would hold on to pick up their first non-conference victory since the 2012 season.
The Lady Braves are back in action tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. to face South Dakota once again and at 1:15 against Louisiana Tech.
