Box Score LORMAN - The Alcorn State softball team hosted their SWAC home opener against Alabama State this afternoon. The Lady Braves took a 2-0 lead and never looked back taking game one 5-1.
Both teams were scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd when the Lady Braves cracked open a 2-0 lead on a two-RBI double by
Alexandria Harris to score Jessie Gressley and
Chqueta Givens.
Alabama State would score in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1 but the Lady Braves added three more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore
Hannah Vesper hit an RBI double to score
Devon Ryan making the score 3-1. Three batters later Givens stepped to the plate and hit a RBI single to score Vesper for a 4-1 lead. Harris hit her second double of the game to score Givens giving the Lady Braves a 5-1 lead.
Neither team scored any runs from there and Lady Braves pitcher
Jazmin Castillo picked up the win for a complete game only allowing six hits and one run.
The Lady Braves and Alabama State conclude the weekend series with a double-header beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by game two at 3:00 p.m.
