Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LORMAN - Head Coach Priscilla Arzaga and her Lady Braves softball team took their first series of the season in a key SWAC East matchup against Alabama State 2-1 this afternoon at the Alcorn State Softball Complex.

The Lady Braves lost game one today but fought back to take game two and the series led by Alexandria Harris.

Game 1:  Alabama State 11, Lady Braves 6

In game one today, the Lady Braves allowed Alabama State to go ahead early in the first 4-0 on a few RBI singles.

The Lady Hornets scored the next two innings to push their lead to 10-1 going into the bottom of the third.  Harris was a key part of nearly every run on the weekend scoring the first run for the Lady Braves on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the third Harris hit a three-RBI triple to cut the lead to 10-4 but the damage was done in the early parts of the game.

The Lady Hornets would score one more run in the sixth to make the score 11-4.  Harris and Chqueta "Nikki Givens each hit an RBI single to give the Braves a little hope in the last inning but it wasn't enough.

Game 2:  Lady Braves 7, Alabama State 3

After being down 3-0 up until the third inning, the Lady Braves picked up the slack and started playing some ball.  Adriana Gutierrez led off the bottom of the third inning with a single.  Two batters later freshman Jessie Gressley hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 3-2.  Immediately after Gressley's homerun, Harris stepped up and delivered with another homerun over the left field side to even the score at 3-3.

Gressley and Harris went to work once again the bottom of the fifth.  After Gressley's lead off double, Harris hit a line drive over center field for a two-run homerun giving the Lady Braves their first lead 5-3.

Shivonne Marshall got into the act in the bottom of the sixth leading off with a bunt and beating out the throw for a single.  Gutierrez singled right after Marshall and Givens followed with a RBI single to score Marshall making the score 6-3.  The Lady Braves would score their final run on a stolen base by Gutierrez.

Harris finished the weekend with 10 RBIs, eight hits, four doubles, scored three runs, and hit two homeruns on nine at bats.
