Arnold Walker had tons of things to be proud of this past season and scoring the game-winning touchdown in overtime to help the Braves defeat Southern 44-38 on their home turf at the legendary A.W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge. Walker's memorable touchdown against Southern comes in at the No. 6 spot in the Top 10 Greatest Moments of 2013-14
The Braves jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 13 yard pass from
John Gibbs, Jr. to
Jordan Payne. Southern struck next in the second quarter on a blocked punt to tie the game at 7-7.
Both teams continued to go back and forth in the scoring column and the game remained tied until the Braves scored 17 unanswered points middway through the second quarter and early in the third. Freshman kicker
Haiden McCraney nailed a 29-yard field goal followed by a six-yard run by Walker to give the Braves a 24-14 lead at halftime.
After the half, the Braves struck quickly with 52-yard strike from Gibbs to
Tavoris Doss giving the Braves a comfortable 31-14 advantage.
But Southern didn't go away with it being homecoming by answering the Braves charge with 21 consecutive points to go ahead 35-31. The Braves stopped the bleeding when
Anthony Williams III scampered for 33-yard touchdown to retake the lead for the Braves 38-35.
A late drive by Southern set up a 38-yard field goal to send the game into overtime.
The Braves stopped Southern from scoring and on the first play of the Braves Walker raced to the endzone for 25-yard touchdown to defeat the Jaguars.
Walker finished the game with 156 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns.
