Hailing all the way from the northern states is Milwaukee, Wisc. native Gregory Jones, coming in at No. 45 in the Top 50 Alcorn Greatest Football Players. Jones first entered Lorman, Miss. in 1979 as a freshman running back for the Braves.
In his freshman debut, he made an immediate impact for the Braves rushing for 582 yards on 145 carries and scored five touchdowns helping the Braves to an 8-2 overall record and 5-1 SWAC record en route to a SWAC title.
In 1980, he piled up several accolades after becoming the first player to rush for 1,000 yards. He totaled 1,054 yards and scored five touchdowns and also caught 16 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. His performance earned him 1st Team All-SWAC honors and 1st Team Sheridan Broadcasting Network All-America honors. He also earned NAIA All-District and AP Little All-America honors.
During his junior season, he caught 15 passes for career-high 183 yards and rushed for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
"Too Fast" finished his career with a total of 1,954 rushing yards and currently ranks fifth all-time. He ranks third all-time in career rushes (487) and tied for sixth in career rushing touchdowns (12).
