Top 50 Greatest Football Players: No. 41, Tony Knox

Coming in at No. 41 on this Sunday morning in the Top 50 Greatest Football Players in Alcorn history is center Tony Knox.  The Greenville, Miss. native was a member of the Braves football team from 1982 to 1985 in the final years of Marino Casem as the head coach.

Knox started at center and was a ferocious blocker for the Braves three consecutive season.  In 1984, he was very instrumental for the Braves team that put together a 7-0 undefeated SWAC record and finished 9-1 overall.  The Braves offense accumulated 3,883 yards of total offense (1,793 rushing & 2,090 passing) and averaged 37.5 points per game.  The Braves also scored over 40 points in six consecutive games during the '84 season.  For helping the Braves to a SWAC title and Black College National Championship, Knox earned 1st Team All-SWAC honors for his outstanding performance.

In 1985, Knox earned 1st Team All-SWAC honors once again at the offensive center position.  The Braves totaled over 3,500 yards of offense and posted a 7-3 record.  Knox was selected to play in the Freedom Bowl All-Star Classic game in 1985.
