Alcorn State Spirit Team Participates at UCA Collegiate Camp

The Alcorn State University Spirit Team, consisting of cheerleaders and male tumblers, attended UCA/UDA Collegiate Camp at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. The 4-day collegiate camp hosted cheer and dance teams from across the United States and Japan.

The
UCA & UDA College Spirit Camps are nationally recognized, providing instruction and choreography from the most respected instructional cheerleading and dance staff in the country. While at camp the Braves' Cheerleaders learned new and creative AACCA approved partner stunts and pyramids for fan enjoyment! The UCA/UDA College Spirit Camps provided positive fan behavior standards and good sportsmanship practices for Game Day, as well as safe, crowd oriented material, all with an emphasis on leading the Braves Crowds. We also developed team-based instructions and class environments to help build your new cheerleading team.

The 2014-2015 ASU Spirit Team competed in Division-I Small Coed Fight Song, Sidelines, and Game Day Competition and ranked 3rd place Game Day Overall trailing behind University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) and University of West Alabama (UWA). The ASU Spirit Team placed 2nd in Sidelines, and 4th in Cheer. Alcorn also came home with UCA Best Newcomer and UCA Most Improved awards. Other teams in our division included University of Louisiana at Monroe, Florida Memorial University, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and South Union State University.

The team is under the leadership of Coach Kenyatta S. Washington, Captains Kyree Freeman and Erin Stirgus, and Sr. Leader Brittany Lyles. Gratitude is expressed to ASU Foundations, Inc., ASU Athletics, ASU Transportation, Alcorn Housing, and Sodexo USA for continued support and encouragement.
