To start the weekend off in the Top 50 Greatest Football Players in Alcorn history is Tyrone Parsons at the No. 35 spot. Parsons played for the Braves from 1999 to 2003 as a defensive back.
In Parsons' freshman debut in 2000, he recorded 27 tackles and led the team with three interceptions and broke up four passes. He also recovered a fumble and blocked a kick.
His sophomore season in 2001 is when he began to picked up accolades. He earned 1st Team All-SWAC Defensive honors and Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette's Division I-AA Honorable Mention Honors. He totaled 33 tackles and ranked fifth in interceptions (4).
In 2002, Parsons started the entire season at defensive back. He racked up 54 tackles and led the Braves with seven interceptions and 13 pass break-ups. Once again he earned 1st Team All-SWAC Defensvie honors and Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette's Division I-AA Honorable Mention Honors.
During Parsons senior season in 2003, he recorded a career-high 60 tackles and intercepted seven passes while recording seven pass break-ups. Parsons returned an interception and a fumble for a touchdown that season. He earned 1st Team All-SWAC Defensive honors for the third consecutive season.
Parsons is currently ranked 2nd all-time in Alcorn history and 4th all-time in SWAC history in career interceptions (21). He is tied for 1st all-time in Alcorn history in most interception yards returned with a total of 157 yards. He is the only defensive back to be named to the All-SWAC 1st Team three consecutive times.
