Tuesday's pick on the Top 50 Greatest Football Players in Alcorn history list is Kris Peters. Recruited to play baseball, Peters played wide receiver for the Braves during the 2001 and 2002 football seasons. Only standing at 5-8, Peters managed to earn numerous accolades and accumulated some of the best stats at the wide receiver position.
In 2001, Peters earned All-SWAC 2nd Team honors after catching 56 passes for 1,002 yards and led the SWAC with a team-high 12 touchdowns. He ranked 4th in the SWAC in receiving yards and 5th in the SWAC in receptions. Peters posted seven out of eleven 100-yard games and became the first player in Alcorn history to catch over 1,000 yards in his first season as a wide receiver.
During the 2002 season, Peters recorded another 50-reception season reeling in 52 catches for 797 yards and eight touchdowns. Peters also returned 17 punts for 268 yards and scored one touchdown. He earned All-SWAC 2nd Team honors and was named to the FCS All-American team after being ranked sixth in the nation in punt return average (15.6 ypg).
Peters finished his career with a total of 118 catches for 1,829 yards and 21 touchdowns. He was the fastest wide receiver in Alcorn history to score a total of 20 or more receiving touchdowns in a two-year span and the only to player to record 50 receptions or more in back-to-back season.
