Top 50 Greatest Football Players: No. 18, Donald Carrie

Coming in at no. 19 in the Top 50 Greatest Football Players in Alcorn history is former quarterback Donald Carrie.  Carrie, a New Orleans, La. native, was a member of the Alcorn State football team from 2001 to 2004.  He set some amazing records and is ranked amongst the elite quarterbacks in school history and in the SWAC.

Carrie put together an outstanding rookie campaign in 2001 starting in every game for the Braves.  He completed 185-of-360 passes for 2,743 touchdowns and threw 23 touchdowns.  In his first career start, he passed for 324 yards and three touchdowns.  His best game was against Mississippi Valley when he completed 19-of-31 passes for a season high 333 yards and five touchdowns.  He scored two rushing touchdowns and threw two touchdowns on 22-of-35 passing for 350 yards against Alabama A&M.  His rookie performance earned him SWAC Newcomer of the Year honors, Division I-AA Honorable Mention honors, and was named Rookie of the Year by Black Voices Quarterly magazine. 

Carrie's sophomore season wasn't much different in 2002.  He completed 155 of 338 passes for 2,197 and threw 19 touchdowns.  His best game was against Jackson State when he completed 22 of 43 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns.

The 2003 season was just as good as the first two for Carrie.  Carrie completed 182 passes for 2,826 yards and threw 24 touchdowns.  He also rushed for 119 yards on 59 attempts and scored four touchdowns.  He was named SWAC Player of the Week three times and posted a single game career-high completing 23-of-40 passes for 379 yards and threw four touchdowns vs. Southern.  He earned All-SWAC 2nd Team honors that season.

In his final season as a Brave, Carrie passed for 2,538 yards on 173-of-331 attempts and threw 16 touchdowns.  His best performance was in 2004 as he completed 20-of-36 passes for 322 yards and threw three touchdowns vs. Mississippi Valley.  Carrie was named SWAC Player of the Week three times for the second consecutive season and was selected to the All-SWAC 2nd Team Offense.

Carrie finished his career ranked 2nd in school history in the following categories:  career passing yards (10,329), career completions (695), career attempts (1,369), and career touchdowns (82).  He is currently ranked 6th all-time in SWAC history in career passing yards.
