Sunday's best in the Top 50 Greatest Football Players in Alcorn football history is star quarterback Marvin Weeks. Weeks was the starting quarterback for the Braves from 1967 to 1969 and became the first quarterback in Alcorn history to lead the Braves to back-to-back SWAC and National Black College Championships.
Weeks got his first start in 1967 when the Braves went 5-4 and scored a school record 101 points against Paul Quinn in the season opener. He completed 78 of 142 passes for 1,023 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The 1968 season was the beginning of something new at Alcorn State. Weeks guided the Braves to a 9-1 overall and 6-1 SWAC record in route to capturing their first SWAC and National Black College Championships in school history. Weeks completed 105-of-205 passes for 1,446 yards and threw 15 touchdowns. He was named to the All-SWAC 1
st Team Offense for his performance.
In 1969, Weeks and company were at it once again repeating as SWAC and National Black College Champs with an 8-0-1 undefeated record. Weeks completed 104-of-223 passes for a career high 1,570 yards and also threw for a single season career-high 20 touchdowns. He was selected to the All-SWAC 1
st Team Offense for the second consecutive season.
Weeks compiled a 17-1-1 record in a two-year span and led the Braves to two SWAC and National Black College Championships. He's ranked 4
th all-time in school history in career yards with a total of 4,410 yards and 3
rd all-time in career passing touchdowns with a total of 52.
Weeks passed away two weeks ago and will forever be remembered for his contributions to the Alcorn State family and football team.
