Top 50 Greatest Football Players: No. 12, Issiac Holt

Starting off the week at the no. 12 spot in the Top 50 Greatest Football Players in Alcorn history is Issiac Holt.  Holt, a product of "DBU" played for the Braves from 1981 to 1984 and made an immediate impact for the Braves once he stepped on the "Reservation."

Holt got off to a good start his freshman season in 1981.  He was tied for first on the team in interceptions with a total of five and recorded 32 tackles and one fumble recovery.

In 1982, Holt intercepted a career-high seven passes, recorded 38 tackles, and deflected 10 passes.  He earned All-SWAC 2nd Team Defensive honors.

During his junior season, Holt intercepted six passes and recorded 36 tackles to help the Braves compile a 7-3 record.  For the second consecutive season, Holt was named to the All-SWAC 2nd Team Defense.

During Holt's final season in 1984, he was very instrumental in helping the Braves capture the SWAC and National Black College Championship with a 9-0 overall and 7-0 SWAC record.  Holt led the team for the fourth consecutive season with a total of six interceptions (returned one for a touchdown) and recorded 25 tackles and seven pass deflections.  He was named to the All-SWAC 1st Team Defense for his performance that season.


Holt is the all-time career leader at Alcorn State in interceptions with a total of 24 and is ranked 3rd in the SWAC in the same category.  Holt was drafted in the 1985 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.
