Today's pick at the no. 9 spot in the Top 50 Greatest Football Players in Alcorn history is WilArthur Jackson. Jackson played for the Braves from 1977 to 1980 as a defensive end and was a part of the 1979 SWAC Championship team.
Jackson saw limited action his freshman season but showed promise his sophomore season in 1978. Jackson recorded 59 tackles and led the Braves with a total of seven sacks to earn All-SWAC 1st Team Defensive honors.
In 1979, Jackson registered 93 tackles and five sacks. For the second consecutive season, Jackson was named to the All-SWAC 1st Team Defense and helped the Braves capture the 1979 SWAC Championship with an overall 8-2 record and a 5-1 record in conference play.
Jackson's final season in 1980 was his best season yet recording 106 tackles and four sacks in nine games. He was named to the All-SWAC 1st Team Defense for the third straight year and was a member of the 1980 NAIA All-American 1stTeam. He also made the SBN 1st Team (Sheridian Broadcasting Network), Associated Press All-America 3rd Team, and participated in the SBN All-Star game.
Jackson totaled 258 tackles and 16 sacks for his career and was the only defensive end to earn 1st Team All-SWAC honors three consecutive years.
