Top 50 Greatest Football Players: No. 7, Lawrence Pillers

Saturday's pick at no. 7 in the Top 50 Greatest Football Players is Lawrence Pillers.  Pillers played for the Braves from 1972 to 1975 and made history during his four-year career.
 
Pillers began his career as an offensive lineman in 1972 and earned All-SWAC honorable mention honors.  He was selected to the 1973 he repeated those same honors.
 
Pillers helped the Braves capture the 1974 SWAC and Black College National Championships as an offensive lineman.  The Braves totaled 3,455 yards and Pillers was named to the All-SWAC 1st Team Offense.
 
In 1975 Pillers was named to the All-SWAC 1st Team as a defensive tackle and also earned 1st Team NCAA and NAIA All-American honors.  He registered 92 tackles and 13 sacks that season
 
Pillers was the only player in Alcorn history to earn All-SWAC honors on both the offensive and defensive teams.  He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1976 NFL Draft in the 11th round.
