Top 50 Greatest Football Players: No. 27, John Thierry

Sunday's best at No. 27 in the Top 50 Greatest Football Players in Alcorn history is linebacker John Thierry.  Rated as one of the fastest linebackers in the history of Alcorn football, Thierry played for the Braves from 1990 to 1993.

Theirry saw action for the first time in 1991.  He racked up 11 tackles and two tackles for a loss.  He also recovered two fumbles that season.

In 1992, Thierry posted 56 tackles and four sacks.  He recovered a single season career-high four fumbles on the season.  He ran a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash which garnered him national attention and was projected to be drafted in the top 10 of the first round in the 1994 NFL draft.

Thierry was a pre-season All-SWAC and All-American going into his senior season in 1993.  He was second on the team in tackles totaling 119 and posted nine sacks and four pass deflections.  He was named to the All-SWAC 1st Team Defense and a member of the NCAA All-American 2nd Team.  

Thierry blazed a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash and was selected as the No. 11 pick in the first round of the 1994 NFL draft.
