Marquis Warford named 2015 Newcomer of the Year
Ongosia, Dade, Payne, Garner, Moody, Watkins, Gatewood, Ragsdale, Anderson, Hayden named to All-SWAC team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alcorn State University, Alabama State University, and Grambling State University received the four major 2015 Southwestern Athletic Conference postseason football awards in voting conducted by league head coaches and sports information directors. The conference made the announcement today, just three days prior to its 2015 Toyota SWAC Football Championship on Saturday, Dec. 5, at NRG Stadium in Houston. Grambling State quarterback Johnathan Williams was named Offensive Player of the Year. Alabama State linebacker Kourtney Berry was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year while Alcorn State's Marquise Warford landed the Newcomer of the Year award.Â
In his first Division I collegiate season after transferring from Memphis, Warford racked up nearly 1,000 all-purpose yards. He leads the Braves in receptions and is second on the team in receiving yards. He is also fourth on the team in rushing yards while finishing with five touchdowns.

Seven Braves was named to the All-SWAC first team. WARREN GATEWOOD, JORDAN PAYNE, and DARIEN MOODY earned their second consecutive first-team honors. Damion Watkins and DETONIO DADE earned first-team accolades, after being second teamers in 2014. STACEY GARNER earned his first post season selection, rounding off the first team selections.Â
