Lady Braves Sweep Alabama A&M

LORMAN, Miss. -- The Lady Braves celebrated senior HANNAH VESPER's last home games with a series sweep over Alabama A&M University Saturday afternoon. The Lady Braves defeated the Lady Bulldogs in game one, 5-2, followed by a 5-4 victory in game two. 

Game One

The Lady Braves struck first on RBIs from TAYLOR HUGHES and MONTANA HOLYFIELD to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. 

Alabama A&M answered back with a RBI single in thetop of the second inning to close the gap 2-1. 

Alcorn extended their lead in the bottom of the third inning on a Vannessa Sanders RBI single followed by a second RBI from Holyfield. The Lady Braves added their last run on a HANNAH VESPER RBI single to centerfield to go up on the Lady Bulldogs, 5-1. 

The Lady Bulldogs capped the scoring on a sacrifice fly to left field to close the game at 5-2. 

Jazmine Castillo recorded her second win, allowing five hits while striking out three in five and a third innings of work. Ashley "Paige" Breal recorded the save, allowing just one hit and striking out two in one and two third innings. 

Game Two

Alcorn State went into the final frame down 4-3 but was rescued when VANESSA SANDERS rocked a two RBI double to centerfield to steal game three, 5-4. 

The Lady Braves' Jessee Gresley got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning with a two RBI single. Alcorn would give up two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game two all. The Lady Braves answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning on an Andi Gutierrez RBI double to left field to take a 3-2 lead. 

AAMU took their only lead of the game in the top of the sixth inning on a two RBI double to post a 4-3 advantage over Alcorn. 
Alcorn State began the seventh inning with back-to-back singles placing runners in scoring positions. Vanessaa Sanders crushed a walk-off two run double to right center for a 5-4 win. 

The Lady Braves are back in action Friday, April 15 when they travel to Itta Bena, Miss. to take on Mississippi Valley State University. First pitch is schedule for 6 p.m.
