BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced the 2016 softball tournament bracket with Alabama State University and Texas Southern University claiming the number one seeds after clinching the eastern and western division titles, respectfully.
The tournament format is double elimination, beginning Wednesday, May 11, at Shea Brothers Softball Complex in Irondale, Ala. The championship game is set for Saturday, May 14, at 2 p.m. with ESPN3 scheduled to televise the event. Games will be played on fields one and two.
Wednesday's, first-round games will be played with eastern division seeds matching up against the western division.
The eight teams are seeded in the following order:
East #1 – Alabama State University
West #1 – Texas Southern University
East #2 – Alcorn State University
West #2 – Southern University and A&M College
East #3 – Mississippi Valley State University
West #3 – Prairie View A&M University
East #4 – Alabama A&M University
West #4 – University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff
First pitches of the tournament are Wednesday at 3 p.m. as the Alcorn State University Lady Braves face Prairie View A&M in game one, on field one, and Southern goes up against the Devilettes, on field two, for game two.
The next set of games begin at 5:30 p.m. as Texas Southern meets Alabama A&M on field one (game three), and Alabama State greets Arkansas-Pine Bluff on field two (game four).
