Braves Prepare for Season-Opening Matches at Lamar, UL-Lafayette

BEAUMONT, Texas – In a second attempt to begin the 2017 season, the Alcorn State University men's programs will play a pair of doubleheaders this weekend beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lamar, followed by a 10 a.m. start Sunday at UL-Lafayette.

Alcorn was originally scheduled to open the year at Tulane last Monday, but weather postponed the match to Tuesday, Jan. 24 at noon. The same thing happened to the women's program as its match against UL-Monroe on Thursday was postponed and no make-up date has been announced.

The Braves will take on Lamar at Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center. The Cardinals dropped their season-opener to Rice 6-1 last weekend on the road.

Lamar is the reigning Southland Conference champion and finished 17-5 in 2016. It returns all six starters including SLC Player of the Year Michael Feucht.

Alcorn will face UL-Lafayette at Cajun Courts. The Ragin' Cajuns went 1-2 last weekend after topping Florida A&M 4-1 but falling to Florida State 4-0 and Florida Atlantic 4-2. ULL will play a doubleheader Saturday against Jackson State before welcoming the Braves.

ULL brought back five starters from a 17-11 squad including All-Sun Belt Conference selections Arthur Libaud and Eric Perez.
