HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Alcorn State University men's tennis program will play a pair of matches Saturday when it takes on Florida A&M at 11 a.m. and Southern Miss at 2 p.m. at the Southern Miss Tennis Facility.

The match against FAMU (0-3) will count as a neutral court contest, while the Southern Miss (0-0) bout is a road match.

Alcorn (0-6) has played a challenging schedule to begin 2017. The Braves started out with a doubleheader against defending Southland Conference champion Lamar and followed it up with a doubleheader vs. a 17-11 UL-Lafayette program from last year and another doubleheader against a Tulane team that advanced to the second round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

Sophomore
Nuno Rocha posted a pair of wins, one in each singles and doubles. He teamed with junior
Nischay Rawal to defeat ULL's Eric Perez and Elio Lago 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.

FAMU opened its season last weekend at the Florida State Tournament in Tallahassee, Florida where it fell to the Seminoles, Florida Gulf Coast and Georgia Southern.

The Rattlers made it to the finals of the MEAC Championships last season before losing to South Carolina State. They brought back three starters including their No. 1 and No. 2 singles players Courage Okungbowa and Karlyn Small.

Southern Miss will play its season-opener this weekend. It finished 16-8 overall last year and 3-2 against Conference USA foes. The Golden Eagles returned five starters from that squad.

The Alcorn women's program will kick-off the 2017 season on Friday, Feb. 3 at the University of New Orleans at 1 p.m.
