Alcorn Continues to Improve at KSM Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The season-bests keep getting better and better for the student-athletes on the Alcorn State University track & field programs as they rounded out the KSM invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
 
Senior Darryl Jones finished in fourth-place in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.01m. It was just off his season-best of 7.04m at the season-opener LSU meet which stands as the farthest jump in the SWAC this year. Freshman Darius Major also posted a top-10 jump of 6.76m in the event which was a season-best.
 
In the women's weight throw, senior Dominique Edwards threw a big season-best of 15.54m for a top-five finish. It crushed her previous best this year of 14.38m set at LSU. Edwards also placed 12th in the shoot put with another season-best of 11.84m.
 
Freshman Kemar Cumberbatch had a big day in the men's 60m. He was one of eight competitors out of 55 to advance to the finals after he dashed for a personal-record of 6.84. Cumberbatch then clocked in at the same exact score to grab sixth-place.
 
In the men's 400m, freshman Anterious Brown recorded a personal-record as sprinted for a time of 49.32 which was good for 13th out of 57. It upped his previous best of 51.11 set at McNeese State.
 
Freshman Jessica Ransom tallied a pair of personal-records. She darted for a 25.28 which placed 13th out of 59 in the 200m, and a 58.17 in the 400m. It topped her previous bests of 25.77 in the 200m at McNeese State and 59.39 in the 400m at LSU.
 
The Lady Braves closed it out strong in the 4x400m relay with a season-best time of 3:59.96. The freshmen crew of Nathalya McMillion, Tymesha Nabors, Shaquanda Hill and Ajanae Roberts won their heat and improved from Alcorn's previous best of 4:09.31 set at McNeese State.
 
The meet was Alcorn's first look at the Birmingham CrossPlex this season which is the same facility that will host the 2017 Indoor SWAC Championships on Feb. 16. The Braves and Lady Braves will be back in action Friday when they compete at LSU.
