Alcorn Heads to West Alabama, Followed by Matches in Vicksburg Friday & Saturday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Alcorn State University men's & women's tennis teams will take the court Thursday when they face West Alabama at 1 p.m. at the Howard R. Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
The Lady Braves (0-4) will follow it up with matches at Halls Ferry Road Tennis Courts on back-to-back days. They will take on Northeastern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. Friday and Central Arkansas at 1 p.m. Saturday.
 
The Alcorn women will look for their first win of the season Thursday. They are looking to bounce back from hard-fought defeats to New Orleans, UL-Monroe and a doubleheader to Lamar. Freshman Anastasia Vaganova picked up a win at No. 5 singles against the Cardinals.
 
The UWA women are off to a 2-1 start with wins over Tusculum 6-2 and Clark Atlanta 9-0. They dropped their season opener at Georgia Gwinnett 6-1.
 
The Braves (1-9) are coming off a 5-4 victory over Delta State last week. They were strong at the top as juniors Nikita Kostikov and Kert Kilumets accounted for three of the team's wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.
 
The UWA men fell in their first two matches of the season against Georgia Gwinnett 6-0 and Tusculum 5-3. However, they bounced back to sweep Tuskegee 9-0 on Tuesday.
 
After the match against UWA, the Braves will have off until Wednesday, Feb. 22 when they travel to Mississippi College. The Lady Braves on the other hand will play six matches in seven days with UWA Thursday, NEO Friday, UCA Saturday, Mississippi State Sunday, Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday and Mississippi College Wednesday.
