MOBILE, Ala. - Fresh off a tie atop the leaderboard at the Jackson State Intercollegiate, junior Daniel Racioppa followed up that performance with a 1-under 215 to place in an eight-way tie for 11th at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate held Monday and Tuesday at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
Making the Mount Albert, Ontario, native's outing even more impressive is that 12 of the 15 team's in the field ranked in the Top 150 in the nation according to golfstat.com. Racioppa boasted the best score among Par 4s in the event, scoring 4-under for a 3.87 average.
"Dan [Racioppa] played awesome. He is one of the top players in the country," said head golf coach Danny Forshey. "He proved that this week. I am very proud of him."
Racioppa concluded the tournament with 10 birdies, which was good for a five-way tie for 12th among all competitors. Five of those birdies came in the opening round.
After shooting 4-over during the first five holes that included a double bogey on the par-5 16th, the hole he first teed from, Racioppa rebounded by carding a 5-under on the remaining 13.
The lefty scored 1-over in the second round and a 1-under in the final round that included birdies on the Par-4 third and 18th and Par-5 fourth.
Fellow junior Daniel Stamper placed in a two-way tie for 62nd. He notched a first-round 74 before dropping off to a 76 and 80 in the final two.
The Braves were rounded out by Luther Thompson (237 | 68th), Jon Allen (238 | 69th) and Spencer Rhodes (242 | 73rd).
Alcorn's 915 placed 14th among all squads and six strokes ahead of Abilene Christian.
Louisville took home the team title on an 856, paced by Keegan de Lange and Trevor Johnson who comprised two of the six third-place individual finishers.
