BATON ROUGE, La. – Much like the season-opener at LSU, the Alcorn State University track & field programs returned to Carl Maddox Fieldhouse on Friday and registered top-10 finishes across the board.

For the second straight week, freshman
Kemar Cumberbatch reached the finals of the 60m. This time, he earned runner-up honors with a score of 6.87 after finishing in sixth last week at the KSM Invitational. He was one of eight finalists after 61 student-athletes competed in the event.

Also on the podium for the Braves, freshman
Anterious Brown darted for a third-place appearance in the men's 400m. He beat out 38 other competitors with a 49.92 which was just shy of his season-best of 49.32 set last weekend.

The Lady Braves were led by sophomore
Jada Hunt who earned a bronze medal in the women's 200m. It was the first time she competed in the event this season and she stopped the timer at 25.62 to win her heat. Overall, Hunt finished ahead of 51 competitors in the competition. Freshman
Jessica Ransom also placed top-10 with a score of 25.99.

Back on the men's side, senior
Darryl Jones continued his big indoor season in the men's long jump with a top-five leap of 7.05m. It also marked a season-best as he broke his 7.04m score from the season-opener at LSU. Jones entered the day ranked second in the SWAC in the event.

Another top-five appearance came in the women's 800m where sophomore
Angelica Jacobs legged out a 2:23.59. She was less-than 10 seconds away from the winning time of 2:14.33 by Erika Lewis from LSU. It was a season-best from Jacobs after she posted a 2:25.33 at the KSM Invitational. Not far behind, freshman
Shaquanda Hill ended in seventh after clocking in at 2:25.52.

In the women's weight throw, senior
Dominique Edwards continued to improve her score as she fired a 16.36m to finish in eighth-place. It marked her second straight season-best as she topped her 15.54m at the KSM Invitational. Edwards also placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 12.02; another season-best, ahead of her 11.94m last weekend.

A top-10 finish came in the women's 400m where freshman
Tymesha Nabors sprinted for a 1:00.02. It beat out her previous best this year of 1:00.33 set at the KSM Invitational. Another top-10 came in the men's 200m where freshman
Jaylen Muhammed posted a 22.84.

Alcorn will close out the regular season next Friday when it heads to Birmingham, Alabama for Samford's meet. The 2017 Indoor SWAC Championships is slated for Feb. 16 in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
