CLINTON, Miss. – The Alcorn State University softball program dropped 6-1 and 8-2 decisions Wednesday evening to Mississippi College at the MC Softball Complex.
Game 1 – MC 6, Alcorn 1
The Lady Braves scratched their lone run in the fourth inning on a bases-loaded single from sophomore
Kaylene Smith. Alcorn had seven student-athletes contribute one hit apiece.
Junior
Madi Creed (1-4) tossed all six innings for her fourth complete game of the season. She allowed eight hits and six runs (all earned) on three walks and a strikeout.
MC starter Peyton Nichols improved to 7-5 as she twirled a complete game of her own, scattering seven hits and the aforementioned earned run.

Game 2 – MC 8, Alcorn 2
The Lady Braves (3-17) tied the game at one in the top of the second inning when senior
Catherine Gore belted a solo homer to center field on the first pitch she saw.
Unfortunately, the Lady Choctaws (14-11) put up five runs in the bottom half to pull ahead 6-1.
Alcorn would answer in the next half-inning on an RBI single from junior
Jessica Crum to make it 6-2.
However, the Lady Braves would be held in check for the next four innings as MC added two more runs in the sixth to seal the 8-2 victory.
Senior
Jazmin Castillo (1-4) threw her second complete game of the season, striking out two and walking two during the 97-pitch outing.
Junior outfielder
Mariah Ortiz extended her hitting- and reached-base streaks to six games as she notched a hit in the first game and two in the second. Two of her three hits were for extra bases.

Alcorn returns to action in its first Southwestern Athletic Conference contest Thursday against Grambling State University at 3 p.m. at the Alcorn Softball Complex.
