LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State University softball program is set to host Southeastern Louisiana University Tuesday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Alcorn Softball Complex.
The Lady Braves swept their first conference series for the second straight season this past weekend, picking up three victories over Grambling State University.Â
Alcorn had a seven-game slate last week. Juniors Jessica Crum and Mariah Ortiz each hit .500 while starting all seven contests.Â
Ortiz extended her hitting streak to nine games and produced multiple hits in three of the last four outings. Crum and fellow junior Taylor Hughes each recorded a team-high eight RBIs.Â
Crum currently boasts a .917 slugging percentage and .483 batting average. Both of those marks rank 15th and 17th in Division I, respectively.
The Lady Braves pitching staff allowed just one earned run against the Lady Tigers this past weekend. Juniors Madi Creed and Robin Harrison each twirled complete games, and senior Jazmin Castillo and freshman Ambria Dorsey combined for a shutout in Alcorn's final game of the series.Â
SLU most recently swept Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and limited the Islanders to just five runs in the series.Â
The Lady Lions are fronted by Kinsey Nichols' .375 batting average and Mahalia Gibson's two homers and 16 RBIs.Â
Rachel Hayes and Lacey Hill have each started nine games in the circle for SLU. The duo have combined for a 9-10 record.
