Lady Braves Travel to Lamar for Tuesday Tilt

Alcorn Game Notes | Live Stats

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Alcorn State University softball squad looks to get back to its winning ways when it faces Lamar University Tuesday in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at the LU Softball Complex.

After winning game one 6-4, the Lady Braves (7-21) dropped the final two games to the University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff 9-8 and 6-4 this past weekend.

Junior first baseman Taylor Hughes notched multiple hits in each game and concluded the series with a team-high .600 batting average.

Junior Jessica Crum belted her seventh homer of the season and recorded five RBIs during the three-game stretch. She has an .844 slugging percentage and .455 batting average that rank 22nd and 26th, respectively, in Division I.

Junior Robin Harrison (3-4) earned the win in the first game, striking out at least seven for the third consecutive start. She has accumulated 22 strikeouts between her last three starts. Harrison's first two outings against SWAC opponents have resulted in wins.

Freshman Ambria Dorsey has been phenomenal as of late. During her last two relief appearances, she has held the opposition scoreless in 4.2 innings or work, picking up a save after 2.2 relief innings against Grambling State University.

During Dorsey's midweek start against Southeastern Louisiana University last week, she scattered five hits during 5.2 innings of work and allowed just two runs.

The Cardinals (15-15) have won eight of their last 10 contests, compiling an 8-1 Southland Conference record in that stretch.

LU reached the finals of the SLC Tournament last season and feature five Preseason All-SLC student-athletes including four first teamers.

Senior catcher Brynn Baca, junior third baseman Sable Hankins, junior outfielder Brittany Rodriguez and senior pitcher Ciara Luna were named to the first team on a Cardinals squad that was chosen to finish third by the coaches in the league.

Rodriguez spearheads LU with a .432 batting average. Hankins has connected for a team-high two homers.
