HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Having won three of its last four contests, the Alcorn State University women's tennis program will travel to Southern Miss for a pair of matches starting at 11 a.m. Friday at the Southern Miss Tennis Facility.

Alcorn (8-13, 5-3 SWAC) is coming off a 4-0 sweep over Delta State on Wednesday in Vicksburg. The Lady Braves did not drop a single game in the two completed doubles matches, and followed it up with a pair 6-0, 6-0 wins and a 6-1, 6-0 victory in singles to clinch it.

Marlene Maier and freshman
Anastasia Vaganova didn't drop a game the whole day. They teamed up to win 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Vaganova posted the same result at No. 5 singles and Maier at No. 6.

On the season, Vaganova hoists a 10-6 (5-1 SWAC) record. She's 8-3 at No. 5 singles and 1-0 at No. 6. Maier is 8-5 (4-0 SWAC) in singles including a 6-2 mark the No. 6 position.

In doubles, Vaganova has mainly played with sophomore
Bianca Birkenstock at the No. 2 spot where they hold an 8-4 record.

USM is 8-7 overall and 5-1 at home this year. Alcorn will be its third SWAC opponent as it recorded sweeps of 7-0 and 4-0 over Jackson State and Southern, respectively, earlier this season.

The Golden Eagles are strong at the top as Carolin Drescher is 8-3 at No. 1 singles and Alex Kitchen is 8-5 at No. 2. Drescher and Kitchen also carry a 9-4 doubles record at the top slot.
