Lady Braves Drop Doubleheader at USM

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Alcorn State University women's tennis program went up against a tough Southern Miss squad as the Golden Eagles came out on top in a pair of 4-0 decisions Friday at the Southern Miss Tennis Facility.
 
Despite the result, Alcorn (8-15, 5-3 SWAC) put up a fight on several courts. In the first match, the doubles team of sophomore Bianca Birkenstock and freshman Veronika Pytlikova were tied 4-4 at the No. 2 position when the match went unfinished.
 
In singles, freshman Anastasia Vaganova nearly closed out a set at the No. 3 spot, but the match was called when she was one game away. Freshman Daria Chemodanova was put in a similar situation as she led Rikeetha Pereira from USM (10-7) 5-1 in a set when the match ended.
 
The teams did not play doubles in the second match.
 
The Lady Braves will look to bounce back Tuesday when they head to Southeastern Louisiana for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
