CLINTON, Miss. – The Alcorn State University track & field programs turned in a big day Friday at the inaugural Mike McMillan Invitational, hosted on the campus of Mississippi College.

Freshman
Tymesha Nabors won two events, one as an individual and one as part of a relay. She started it off with a 1:04.40 in the 400m hurdles to win by more than half a second.

Nabors was then part of a first-place 4x400m relay team. She joined fellow freshmen
Nathalya McMillion,
Shaquanda Hill and
Jessica Ransom to clock in at a season-best of 3:50.30. They won the race by nearly four seconds. It also crushed their previous best of 3:54.95 at McNeese State on March 11.

The Lady Braves excelled in the 800m where they earned first and second-place honors. Sophomore
Angelica Jacobs grabbed the top spot with a season-best of 2:18.33. She edged out freshman
Shaquanda Hill who settled for second with a personal-record of 2:19.96. Jacobs topped her previous best of 2:20.28, and Hill 2:20.54.

Alcorn's final gold medal came in the women's triple jump where senior
Shaniqua Knowles leaped for a personal-record mark of 11.83m. It bested her previous PR of 11.55m at the SWAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 17. Knowles beat out Dominique Lewis from Louisiana Tech who landed at 11.80m.

In women's throws, senior
Dominique Edwards registered a pair of second-place performances. She tossed a 34.50m in the discus and a 41.55m in the hammer. Senior
Samiria Martin earned a bronze medal in the discus after firing a 34.11m.

Another second-place finish came in the women's 100m where sophomore
Jada Hunt clocked in at a season-best of 12.00. She was just 0.01 seconds away from winning.

The men were led by the 4x400m relay team that earned a silver medal with a season-best of 3:15.14. The squad of senior

Lane Ross and freshman
Anterious Brown increased their time from the 3:16.37 set at Texas Southern on March 18.

Freshman
Qaseem Wajd notched a sixth-place showing in the men's 800m. He broke two-minutes for the first time as his 1:59.97 improved his previous best of 2:01.45 at TSU.

Back on the women's side, Ransom sprinted for a 25.00 to place fourth in the 200m. Junior
Dynasty Williams tallied a season-best of 20:22.33 to finish top-five in the 5000m, and freshman Justice Edwards darted for a season-best of 15.43 in the 100m hurdles to end in seventh.

Alcorn will have next weekend off before it competes again at South Alabama on April 14-15. The 2017 SWAC Outdoor Championships is slated for May 5-7 in Huntsville, Alabama.
