LORMAN, Miss. – Having clinched the SWAC East Division title, the Alcorn State University softball program will come back home for a non-conference affair Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Mississippi State at the Alcorn Softball Complex.

Alcorn (15-24, 12-3 SWAC) wrapped up a six-game road trip with a 5-1 record. It has won eight of its last nine games overall which included a six-game winning-streak.

The Lady Braves clinched the division crown Saturday at Alabama A&M. Alcorn is three games ahead of Alabama State in the loss column. Thus, even if the Lady Braves get swept by Mississippi Valley State next weekend and the Hornets win-out, Alcorn has the head-to-head tiebreak over ASU. The Lady Braves swept the Hornets two weeks ago.

Taylor Hughes leads the league with a .497 on-base percentage and ranks second with a .415 batting average. Hughes also ranks first in the SWAC with 14 doubles, 35 runs scored and 51 hits. She's hitting for a .489 average in conference. Hughes is on a 14-game on-base streak.

Jessica Crum leads the conference with nine homers and 81 total bases. She's second in slugging percentage with a .750 mark.

Mariah Ortiz is hitting for a .412 average. She recorded multi-hit games in all three matches against AAMU over the weekend.

Ambria Dorsey have been unhittable in conference. Harrison has a 1.70 ERA and Dorsey 1.77. The two combine for a perfect 8-0 record.

In SWAC play, Alcorn has outscored the opposition 98-45. The Lady Braves have a 2.27 team ERA. They've seen their starting pitcher toss a complete-game in 12 of the 15 contests with three shutouts.

As a team, the Lady Braves lead the SWAC in runs scored (196), hits (306), RBI (173), doubles (56), total bases (102) and walks (102).

Mississippi State (31-14, 6-9 SEC) won two out of three at No. 19 Georgia over the weekend. It has won its last two series after beating South Carolina twice the previous weekend. Reggie Harrison leads the team at the plate with a .354 average, and Caroline Seitz is hitting .301 with six homers and 34 RBI.

The Lady Braves will conclude conference play this weekend when it hosts Mississippi Valley State in a three-game series. Game one is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday.
