LORMAN, Miss. – The SWAC East Division champion Alcorn State University softball program will wrap-up its conference schedule this weekend when it hosts Mississippi Valley State in a three-game series beginning Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Alcorn Softball Complex.
The Lady Braves (15-25, 12-3 SWAC) and the Delta Devilettes (10-28, 5-7 SWAC) will play a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. to complete the series. Alcorn will honor its eight seniors

The Lady Braves clinched the SWAC East Division title last weekend. They will enter the 2017 SWAC Championships as the top seed from the east. Alcorn also has the best conference record overall as Prairie View A&M leads the west with a 10-5 record.
Collins is the reigning SWAC Hitter of the Week winner. She posted a .545 batting average, .727 on-base percentage and .615 slugging percentage last weekend at Alabama A&M. She went 6-for-11 at the plate with a pair of extra base hits and three RBI. Collins also drew a pair of walks and stole a base.
Alcorn has won eight of its last nine conference games which included a six-game winning-streak.

Taylor Hughes leads the league with a .493 on-base percentage and ranks second with a .408 batting average. Hughes also ranks first in the SWAC with 14 doubles, 35 runs scored and 51 hits. She's hitting for a .489 average in conference. Hughes is on a 15-game on-base streak.

Jessica Crum leads the conference with nine homers and 84 total bases. She's second in slugging percentage with a .757 mark.

Ambria Dorsey have been unhittable in conference. Harrison has a 1.70 ERA and Dorsey 1.77. The two combine for a perfect 8-0 record.
In SWAC play, Alcorn has outscored the opposition 98-45. The Lady Braves have a 2.27 team ERA. They've seen their starting pitcher toss a complete-game in 12 of the 15 contests with three shutouts.
MVSU has dropped five of its last six. It was edged by Nicholls State 1-0 in its last outing on Tuesday. Holly Brown leads the team with a .324 average, while Talton Deja is hitting .270 with nine homers and 26 RBI.
The 2017 SWAC Championships is scheduled for May 10-13 in Montgomery, Alabama on the campus of Alabama State University.
