Alcorn Competes in Prestigious LSU Alumni Gold Invitational

BATON ROUGE – The Alcorn State University track & field programs sent 19 student-athletes who qualified to compete in the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational on Saturday at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
 
Freshman Lane Ross turned in a big day which started in the 110m hurdles. He earned third-place with a season-best of 15.25. Ross tallied another season-best in the 400m hurdles with a fourth-place score of 53.46.
 
Another bronze medal was etched in the women's 400m hurdles where freshman Tymesha Nabors clocked in at 1:02.82. It was nearly a full second better than her previous season-best this year.
 
Alcorn's final podium spot was solidified in the women's 800m. Freshman Shaquanda Hill recorded a time of 2:20.33.
 
Freshman Kemar Cumberbatch notched a top-10 showing in the 100m with a 10.69. It matched his season-best set at Texas Southern on March 18.
 
Other season-bests of note included freshman Qaseem Wajd's 1:58.26 in the 800m, and the women's 4x100m relay team of freshman Jessica Ransom, sophomore Jada Hunt, freshman Shameka Grover and freshman Nathalya McMillion turned in a 47.16. Hunt was also Alcorn's top finisher in the women's 100m with an eighth-place time of 12.03.
 
Alcorn will close out the regular season at Northwestern State next Saturday. The 2017 SWAC Outdoor Championships is slated for May 5-7 in Huntsville, Alabama on the campus of Alabama A&M University.
