Alcorn Closes Regular Season with Doubleheader at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Alcorn State University softball program will wrap-up the 2017 regular season Tuesday when it travels to Memphis for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. at the Tigers Softball Complex.
 
The Lady Braves (16-27, 13-5 SWAC) SWAC East Division champions. They will enter the 2017 SWAC Championships as the top seed from the east. Alcorn also has the best conference record overall as Texas Southern leads the west with a 10-5 record.
 
Alcorn went on a seven-game winning-streak in conference where it outscored the opposition 55-14.
 
Junior Taylor Hughes leads the league with a .503 on-base percentage and ranks second with a .414 batting average. Hughes also ranks first in the SWAC with 15 doubles, 36 runs scored and 55 hits. She's hitting for a .491 average in conference. Hughes is on an 18-game on-base streak.
 
Junior Jessica Crum leads the conference with nine homers, 48 RBI, 92 total bases and a .767 slugging percentage. She's hitting for a .408 average on the season.
 
As a team, the Lady Braves lead the SWAC in runs scored (209), hits (339), RBI (185), doubles (61), total bases (488) and walks (117).
 
The Lady Braves have won four SWAC Player of the Week awards this season. Crum won Hitter of the Week on Feb. 21, junior Mariah Ortiz on March 22 and senior Sametria Collins on April 18. Harrison earned Pitcher of the Week on April 4.

Memphis (23-23, 4-8 AAC) is looking to snap a seven-game skid. The team is led by Lindsay Crowdus who hits for a .470 average with 23 RBI. Pitching has been the Tigers strength as they carry a 2.87 ERA as a team.
 
The 2017 SWAC Championships is slated for May 10-13 in Montgomery, Alabama on the campus of Alabama State University.
