HAMMOND, La. – Entering its final regular season week of 2017, the Alcorn State University women's tennis program will head to Southeastern Louisiana for a 2 p.m. match Tuesday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

The Lady Braves (8-15, 5-3 SWAC) will look to pick up momentum heading into the SWAC Championships on April 14-16 in New Orleans. They close out the regular season at William Carey on Friday at 2 p.m.

Freshman
Anastasia Vaganova has stood out for Alcorn this season with a 10-6 overall singles record and 5-1 in conference. She's 8-3 at No. 5 singles. Vaganova also hoists an 8-4 doubles record at the No. 2 spot with sophomore
Bianca Birkenstock.

Also having a big season, sophomore
Marlene Maier is 8-5 in singles including a 6-2 mark at the No. 6 slot. She was a perfect 4-0 in conference.

The Lady Braves have alternated between Birkenstock and freshman
Daria Chemodanova at the top singles position. Birkenstock is 4-4 there, while Chemodanova is 3-7. Birkenstock is 5-2 in conference and Chemodanova 5-1.

SLU enters play with a 3-11 overall record and 0-7 in the Southland Conference. The Lady Lions are 2-0 against the SWAC this year as they beat Jackson State 4-3 and Southern 4-2.

The Alcorn men's team will be off until Friday when it joins the women's squad against William Carey.
