COLLINS, Miss. – Alcorn State University football head coach
Fred McNair was named as the 2017 Grand Marshal for the 28th Annual Okatoma Festival this past Saturday, May 6 hosted by the City of Collins.
Â
The festival included a 5K run/walk and a children's one mile fun run. It began and ended at the Presbyterian Church in downtown Collins.
Â
The festival also featured carnival rides, live music, old-fashioned ice cream and lots of other types of food. Dozens of vendors were also on hand selling lots of arts and crafts.
Â
"I was very happy to receive the honor of being the Grand Marshal and being a part of the Mississippi Bicentennial celebration of the 200-year anniversary of the state," McNair said. "The festivity was great. I had a chance to walk around, meet the vendors and tasted some good ole' barbeque. It was very nice, and I wanted to thank the Chamber of Commerce in Collins for having me. They did a great job of putting it together."
Â
An estimated 15,000 people were in attendance.
